Discount Calculator
Find the real price of a sale item, including "extra 10% off" deals and sales tax.
| Sale price | $90.00 |
|---|---|
| You save | $30.00 (25%) |
| With 0% sales tax | $90.00 |
How to use it
- Enter the tag price and the percent off.
- If there's an additional coupon, enter it as the extra discount; it's applied after the first one.
- Add your sales tax rate to see the checkout total.
Formula
Sale price = price × (1 − off%) × (1 − extra%)Total = sale price × (1 + tax%)
Example
$100 at 20% off, then an extra 10% off, is 100 × 0.8 × 0.9 = $72, not $70. Stacked discounts multiply; they don't add.
Questions
Is 20% off plus 10% off the same as 30% off?
No. It works out to 28% off, because the second discount applies to the already-reduced price.
How do I find the original price from a sale price?
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount). $72 after 20% off came from 72 ÷ 0.8 = $90.
