Formula

Needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight
with weight written as a decimal (25% = 0.25)

Example

Current grade 85%, final worth 20%, target 90%: (90 − 85 × 0.8) ÷ 0.2 = (90 − 68) ÷ 0.2 = 110%. Not reachable without extra credit, but 85% overall needs only an 85 on the final.

What if my current grade already includes some of the final?

Use the grade on everything except the final, and the final's full weight.

Can I use points instead of percentages?

Convert to percentages first: points earned ÷ points possible × 100.
